Group Description

SpecialEdFairfax is a discussion group for parents of any child who has a disability and receives special education services in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). SpecialEdFairfax and is sponsored by the Fairfax Alliance for Appropriate Public Education (FAAPE).

On SpecialEdFairfax we share ideas on how to best serve students in our local school communities and discussing special education issues which affect services in FCPS. Members may use this group to send out information on workshops, legislative updates and other announcements of interest to the parents of students with disabilities. Members are welcome to also discuss topics of particular interest.

If you would like to join SpecialEdFairfax, please send a request to the moderator at specialedfairfax-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. To be a member you must answer YES to 2 of the 3 questions below. Membership in SpecialEdFairfax is at the discretion of the moderator.

1. Does your child have or is suspected of having a disability?
2. Does your child have an IEP or 504 Plan?
3. Does your child attend a school in FCPS or is placed in a private day school by FCPS?

Once membership is approved, you are responsible to review and abide by all SpecialEdFairfax posting rules listed below.


1. Civil discourse is expected all all times.

2. Posts which attack other members by name or inference are strictly prohibited.

3. Solicitations and advertisements which benefit a member financially are not permitted.

4. Signature lines may be used to denote a conflict of interest disclosure but may not be used to promote or advertise any professional services.

5. Events and notices may be posted as informational.
