Investigators got a break in the killing on Monday, when Davies and Madrid were arrested on suspicion of carjacking a Jeep from a 17-year-old girl at gunpoint outside The Gazette on South Prospect Street off East Pikes Peak Avenue. The girl, who wasn’t injured, was waiting in the locked Jeep just after midnight to pick up her father, a Gazette employee.

Davies and Madrid were arrested about two hours after the carjacking, when police pulled over the stolen Jeep on the west side.

Madrid told police Monday she knew who killed the man found in the burned truck and initially accused someone other than Davies, according to an arrest affidavit.

During questioning Tuesday, she told detectives that she had lied about who killed Cisneros and that her boyfriend, Davies, was the killer, the affidavit says.

Madrid also implicated herself in the killing by saying she helped load Cisneros’ body into the truck bed, helped buy the gas used to set the truck on fire and helped get rid of the gun, the affidavit states.

Police on Tuesday interviewed Davies, who confessed to killing Cisneros at an apartment in the 800 block of South Hancock Avenue that he shares with Madrid, the affidavit says.

Davies told police he had lent the AK-47 rifle to Cisneros the week before, in exchange for a quarter-ounce of methamphetamine, the affidavit states.

“He said he was upset the victim had not returned the AK-47,” Colorado Springs police detective Steve Noblitt wrote in the affidavit.

Davies was home with Madrid and three other people when Cisneros came by Saturday morning and got into a dispute with Davies, the affidavit states.

The teen “shot the victim in the head while they were standing outside of the apartment,” Noblitt wrote in the affidavit.
