The thirteenth Tour de Torrington will be held this year on Sunday August
4th. The Tour is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Last year
more than 600 participants raised over $50,000 for the fight against cancer.
There are 12, 30, 50 and 75 mile routes. All routes are on paved roads and
all routes start and end at Coe Park, Route 202 in Torrington, Ct.
The seventy-five mile route has exactly two left turns; the fifty mile ride
has only one left turn. Near the end of the seventy-five and fifty mile
rides is a nine mile run that has no traffic lights, no stop signs, is
mostly down hill and was repaved three years ago.
If you are not from northern Litchfield County, the traffic - or lack of
it - may take some getting used to. On the roads, most of the turkeys you
see will actually have feathers! On the thirty mile ride, there is 6.5 mile
long East Street North where you will see more cyclists than cars. On the
seventy-five mile ride, there is Route 43 where people have ridden the
entire five-mile long road without seeing a single car!
All participants receive a free T-shirt. The first seven hundred riders to
register also get a free water bottle. A free picnic is held after the ride.
All the routes are fully supported with rest stops and on-the-road support
