Re: [softrock40] Re: Which sound card?
- Hi Duncan, et. al.,
Your interesting tests with the Soundblaster Live! 24 card made me
wonder if I could make one of them work on Ubuntu Linux. I sent an
inquiry to the dttsp-linux reflector, and got the following reply from
James Courtier-Dutton regarding this link to your web page:
I write some of the ALSA linux drivers for Creative cards.
The test output as shown in the link above are not much help.
If one takes the PCI SB Live 24bit card, there are actually about 5
different variants of it. So, the actual sound quality is likely to vary
A better way to test would be to gather as much information about the
different cards as possible.
E.g. Any writing on the Card indicating a model or revision number. Most
Creative cards have something like "SB0410" or something like that
written on them which refer to the Variant ID.
The PCI ids. and subsystem Ids.
The operating system and test program used.
The versions of OS and version of test program used.
Can you tell me exactly which card variant you are using? Also, have
you tried it under Linux at all? Finding an inexpensive card that works
under Linux and has decent specs is really a challenge.
Thanks & 73,
