      Claiming the interface is stage two of the libusb communication process.  


      The discovery stage finds out what USB devices are connected and who they identify themselves to be.  To actually talk to a USB device you need to claim sole proprietorship of its interface.  You cannot do that if the permissions aren't set properly or if another program has claimed the interface and is hogging it.
