Actually, what I'm looking for is a Si532, a dual frequency XO. It is controlled by making a pin high or low.

I did get a final page on the sample order saying this:

"Requested part number 532AA000539DG has been added to your order."

But no e-mail to confirm. I called Sales locally here, and they guy had no real knowledge of the process and suggested I try to order again, which I did. He did say that once the programing is completed and tested for the part, it is sent off to Mouser to be shipped to me. But without any order number to track, it looks like it's up to me to bulldog the issue when it's past the 2 weeks of processing, The Si Labs sample order says this is about the time it takes. I'm going to keep on it, as best I can.

For small orders distributors are your best bet. Finding one that has your needs in stock is another matter. IF Tony would give a heads up on which one he uses, they would have product in stock because they have demand. I would not expect to get his cost though.

Distributors are authorized resellers. They only inventory what is moving in some quantity. If it develops you are the only person demanding a item, they may have minimum order quantities and you get a real poor price for a few or get completely ignored because it is not economically prudent for them to take your order.

Manufactures stock almost nothing intentionally and build to order mostly. Sometimes they have a lot of something from a cancellation bankruptcy/going out of business sort of thing or just plain forecast error.

              Dave,

I don’t know if SiLabs is processing any samples of late.  I put in a sample request (and got a confirmation email) back on June 14th.  To date, SiLabs has not contacted me via Phone or email.

              Here’s a portion of the email I got back…

Your part number request has been received by Silicon Labs.

              - Please note that submission of part number requests through the http://www.silabs.com/VCXOPartNumber web utility does not constitute an actual order.

              - Your requested part number exists in Silicon Labs' database and is available to order. A Silicon Labs sales representative will contact you soon to assist you with your sample order requirements.”

Has anybody actually received samples since April of this year?

Your order is being processed and you will receive a confirmation email upon checkout.

Your parts are expected to ship within two weeks.

Do you think "checkout" means after they have processed and tested the sample order, they have checked out and are now sending the part Mouser to ship to the customer?

It's been at least 2 weeks since I first started the order process. Earlier today, I called Si Lab Sales, and he said to wait another week. If no sample arrives, he will directly order the sample for me.

And continuing along for a sample XO device
And finally to this heading: XO/VCXO Part Number Utility
I choose Si532 and get this heading
XO/VCXO Part Number Builder This called Step 1, build part number
I put in what I want and then click Preview Configuration. I'm now in Step 2, Verify Specification.
I click Next. It goes to: Initiate New Part Number Request
It wants my Name, Address, etc, etc. This is called Step 3, Initiate Request

I never see a "Check Out" button.
I think the path maybe quite different when you request to BUY
The whole procedure is very easy till the last page, when you don't know if the order really got accepted. It sounded like Sales sort of knew that ambiguity. I don't think its a pop up blocker, XP usually reports that near the top of the page. Very strange!

                          Don:
When you click on "Order Samples" you should see a pop up with the cart at
<http://www.supplier-direct.com/silabs/Cart.aspx>.  This is the same whether you buy or are ordering a sample.  If ordering a sample, the price will be 0.00 .  You must check out from the Cart page for the order to go through.
Try going to the link above.  Your cart with the sample order should show up.  When you check out, they will ask you many of the same questions you already answered.  Good thing their chips are better than their web programmers!

                          Dave,
                          I went here first:
                          http://www.silabs.com/Pages/default.aspx
Then click on Buy or Sample Online
                          Then here:
                          http://www.silabs.com/buysample/pages/default.aspx
And continuing along for a sample XO device
And finally to this heading: XO/VCXO Part Number Utility
I choose Si532 and get this heading
XO/VCXO Part Number Builder This called Step 1, build part number
I put in what I want and then click Preview Configuration. I'm now in Step 2, Verify Specification.
I click Next. It goes to: Initiate New Part Number Request
It wants my Name, Address, etc, etc. This is called Step 3, Initiate Request
At he very bottom it says: Request Part #, Order Samples, Buy Now.
                          I click on Order Samples.
That's when it goes to the final page, saying

                            Dave,
Well, it finally worked with some bad news. You were right. After Order Samples, I saw a tiny icon at bottom right. Clicking on it I had option to allow pop ups. I did so, but it was too late by then, so had to start process all over again. Now, I did see the form with checkout you mentioned. But in red I saw "this part cannot be sampled, it has to be purchased" or to that effect. I kind of figured that since, samples are usually done on standard parts on hand. This would be considered custom, since I asked for 2 special frequencies. Anyway continued to fill out rest of form, which went to page with credit card stuff.

So, had to purchase this custom little guy! Oh Well, only $8.71 plus whatever. Will not know total till it's shipped out of Mouser.

Finally, I DID GET AN E-MAIL indicating their acknowledgment of my order. When money is involved, the e-mails fly out!

Thanks to all for putting up with my saga of the GREAT POPUP MYSTERY!
                            Don

I tried AGAIN to order samples from Si Labs.

There is NOT an “Order Samples” button any longer- either I am offered the choice to submit my part request, or “Buy”, and then they are listed at full price in the cart.

I have a feeling ordering Si570 samples is no longer an option.

Thank you for your interest in Silicon Labs' XO & VCXO products!

                              Still no e-mail

I tried AGAIN to order samples from Si Labs.

There is NOT an “Order Samples” button any longer- either I am offered the choice to submit my part request, or “Buy”, and then they are listed at full price in the cart.

I have a feeling ordering Si570 samples is no longer an option.

Thank you for your interest in Silicon Labs' XO & VCXO products!

Thank you for your interest in Silicon Labs' XO & VCXO products!

                                  Still no e-mail
