- Hi Nels,
V1.19 actually works very well on a WinXP machine...

- Since starting out with a SR v6.3 I describe my commercial rigs as being here to keep dust off the shelves.
My main rig now is the HiQSDR with integral 10W PA/BPF's and waiting on the 100W PA/LPF. Worked lots of DX with 10W.
Hermes with a 1W driver and 100W PA and LPF boards from a IC-737 being worked on.

One of my favorite modes ais JT 65. Had an Icom 706MKIIG. Kids kept spinning dials while I was on the radio. Sold it and wanted to go with a qrp radio, love turning a rig down to a watt and see what it can do, anyway SDR seems lie a good choice, NO BUTTONS or KNOBS for the kids to get hold of. Evey review Iecer read held the softrock in high regard. So of to order a new rig in a day or so...

On the software side the easiest to get running is quisk http://james.ahlstrom.name/quisk/, I can supply if you have problems with it as I include a README_G3VBV.txt that explains precisely what to do but it's really easy to get going.
I'll email you my quisk-3.6.8_G3VBV.tar.gz so you can have a look at it.
ghpsdr3-alex - http://napan.ca/ghpsdr3/index.php/Main_Page which supports quite a number of different SDR's with access on the PC it's running on or across a network and on the internet. Have a read of the homepage to see what it can do.
I use it to put Softrock, UHFSDR, HiQSDR, RTL-SDR and openHPSDR Hermes on the net and have given remote demonstrations to others using glSDR from Google Play on an Android mobile phone.
Linrad - http://www.sm5bsz.com/linuxdsp/linrad.htm - simple once you don't play too much with the settings.
WSPR, worked great using an Ensemble RXTX.
All the above are also available for Windows.
Windows programs under Wine/Crossover Office ---
Tried Rocky back a few years but could not get access to the sound hardware. The guy from Codeweavers had no trouble with sound running the same openSUSE distribution and pretty much the same hardware. Some years before Windows Media Player used to work.
PowerSDR -- treacle slow in painting to the screen on an 8-CPU box with 16GB. I'll have another go when I get around to installing the latest version of Crossover Office.
Kissconsole for openHPSDR HPSDR/Hermes, finds the Hermes hardware then starts looking for the Alex LPF/BPF filters that I don't have and fails even though I only select Hermes. No suggestions from the HPSDR group forthcoming.

Ok guys, am ordering an ensemble rxtx in the next few days... First I see there is an rxtx 2. What are the difference between that and the rxtx? Is there still an option for 40 30 20 ? And my last question is I am running Linux. What progrms work best to run the rig on linux? And last that I can think of is how well if at all does running windows sdr software under WINE ?
