Here are a couple of white papers I recently came across that cover some SDR theory and implementations.

While they are primarily targeted at commercial applications rather than ham applications they are informative.

The first one goes into SDR basics (along with some obligatory commercial content). The second one’s emphasis is on using FPGAs in SDR applications.

“Digital Receiver Handbook -  Basics of Software Radio”  ( http://www.techonline.com/pdf/pavillions/pentek/pentek_digital.pdf )

“Putting FPGAs to work for Software Radio”   (  http://www.techonline.com/pdf/pavillions/pentek/pentek_swr.pdf  )

While I work for Xilinx who makes the FPGAs discussed in the articles, the pointers to the articles are for general info, not to sell chips J
