      SOAP is inherently one-way, and you can model request-response on top of it.
       
      This seems like a possible dangerous thing to do, but I don't think it is illegal from the SOAP perspective. I would rather return a URL to the image.

      Is it permitted to send a SOAP request and receive
      a response that is not a SOAP message?  The W3C draft
      specification does not appear to forbid it, but all
      of the usage examples I can find use SOAP in both
      directions.  May I, for example, send a SOAP request
      and receive an image/png response?
