Chrissy and I went standup paddle boarding yesterday
for 4 hours at Lahaina. Great fun. By the last two hours we were
both riding small 2ft waves a hundred ft into shore. I have never been
able to surf a wave in standing up till now. We went boogie boarding today
in some nasty shore break at Big Beach. The locals taught us the trick and
we had a blast. Steve-O, sounds like you had a great time out a the river
today. Thanks for sharing the stoke. Can't wait to hit the water
now. Back on Wednesday. Hopefully I won't bring the doldrums back with
Having same problems here in los mochis. Light wind. Beach is awesome but
winds are unseasonably light. T-storms & rain are said to not happen unil
July. So far every afternoon. Doho. But this place is epic I did get in an
hour yesterday. In 12knots. I'd live at this beach if it where not in loco
Weekend looks better, it has been hard to teach with such light winds.
Now I'm off to WWF mexican style. Should be interesting.
Oh yeah got nailed by a jelly fish makes me yearn for LP. And I have sand
in my crack....every crack. But water temp is absolutly perfect.
Glad you are all getting some action. I've been in
Maui 8 days now with not a day of wind over 10mph. Aparently the trade
winds are all messed up. Must be Obama. Seriously though, I was
talking to a windsurfer who said this is the most windless May in
20years. Who would have guessed. I leave next Tuesday and there is
no wind forecast all the way out. On the bright side, I can't think of a
funner place to spend a windless kiteboarding/windsurfing vacation.
Thanks for the advice Tom C. on the S.U.P.. Having a blast. Lot's
of good snorkeling too. And I'm alone here with Chrissy (wife) which
never seems to happen since we had kids. Time to go back out to the
The readings looked rather gloomy this morning, showing SW, but the
Lucky Peak RAWS was in double digits so I headed up anyway. I was able to sail
on my usual 5.5 and was planing about 90 percent of the time, but it
definitely was a light day. I almost headed in when it dropped a bit after the
first half-hour, but then it filled back in. Chris L. (6.0?) and Jim V. (7.0)
were making it work. I did have one rather long wait for a waterstart on the
near side (after which I made sure to jibe further out), and the water felt
VERY cold, it seemed like it was colder than it was on Monday (of course, on
Monday I had all that high-wind adrenalin-rush thing going). I did wear my
summer gloves, tho, and my hands never froze. The second time I went down in a
lull, I uphauled to avoid a chilly wait. I sailed from 7 to 8:15 and was glad
I went. I did get fooled by what appeared to be such an easy beach launch,
stepped up in shallow water and clonked my fin on a rock and fell in; it
worked fine once I waded out just a bit further.
