      Subject: [snowkiteidaho] chasing wind

I was up skiing Soldier Mountain ski area Sunday.  (Sweet little secret area,  was skiing powder all day long, fresh tracks still at 4pm $25 w/ Bogus pass.)  The wind was blowing on the way back through the canyons around Little camus at about 5pm.  The winds were really strange though; going up the hill at the overlook at the top, South on the east end of the resevoir, and North on the West end.  All the spots where it was blowing had drifts on the road indicating a consistant direction for at least a few hours.  Definitely katabatic winds, probably caused by the inversion conditions up on the main Camus.  I am thinking that in the early stages of an inversion, or as long as there is some significant day time warming on the valley floor, these winds should come up in the afternoon.

Anyway J and I are talking about going on a wind hunt tomorrow to see if we can find flow in the canyons.  If you're intersted give me a shout.
