Re: [snowkiteidaho] Re: Wind meter
- Rusty, the new windmeter must be in need of software calibration. Today from 6-7pm it consistently read 20-25mph, when the wind was half that. Also noticed that for a great majority of readings, the average wind speed is identical to gust speed.JonOn Sun, Jun 2, 2013 at 9:56 AM, RUSTY HILL <rustyshill@...> wrote:Yes, we will gladly take your money... Thanks, Rusty (and Jake and all others.)
How can we get our $$ contributions to you?

I've you've been out of the loop, that is 20 times more frequently than before. I've had the system set up at my house for the past few days in order to familiarize myself with the system. It works as smoothly as I could have hoped for. We were waiting for Jake's mobile hotspot to receive it's new simcard. It arrived yesterday and we were able to get it all going this morning. Right now we are monitoring data usage to see if it's feasible to add a webcam without needing more data. Right now we are using Verizon's network and Jake's mobile hotspot that he generously donated. We know that Verizon works up there reliably, but it costs a little more to be on their network ($50). Currently we are on a month to month so I'd still like to explore the possibility of a less expensive option.
> I know I have asked multiple times but we really need to find someone who has a Sprint smartphone. This isn't a permanent donation. It doesn't require you to give up your device or pay for anything. We just need to determine if their network works at the weather station site. So please, ask around, break into your neighbors house, steal some purses... whatever it takes. The alternative is me buying a hotspot with sprint, paying for a month of service just to test it up there. If it works, great… if it doesn't I can return the device but can't get a refund on a the service for the month. So it's a $30 gamble. If someone can step forward and help out it would save the gamble. Pretty easy, eh? The advantage is that we would save $20 per month…. forever, if it works up there.
> Lastly, If you check the weather station you'll notice the wind direction is a little skewed… well we ran into a design flaw in the new sensors. If we orient it correctly so that North is North… the rain gauge and temp sensor block the wind from hitting the anemometer. So until we get a new bracket fabricated, or figure out some software tweaking, the readings will be 180 degrees off. It's always something with these blasted things…. anyway…. Enjoy!
> P.S. All of you doubters and naysayers this morning missed out on A LOT of FUN!!!!! Just figured I'd rub it in. :D

Sounds good Jim…
Did you remove the Lithium batteries from the unit to extend their life?
Let me know if not and I can do that when I get some time.
I finally found time to go up to lucky peak to get the hot spot. I put the anemometor in the shed. There is a heater inside so nothing will freeze--
