In the typical style of imperialist-statist politicians, pro-state and quasi-Stalinist election winner George Galloway has today condemned protesters for "violence" against the fascist police who are using vicious measures to suppress protests around the G8 summit. This shows that he does not take seriously his own denouncement of the very real violence of the imperialist occupation of Iraq, if he is prepared to condemn those whose actions could disrupt the imperialist strategy meetings of the G8 for defending themselves against, and acting proactively to prevent police repression. He has failed to use his spot in the limelight to denounce the police as an extension of the paramilitary state committing slaughter in Iraq, instead choosing to act like a Blairite or a liberal. It is clear from this denouncement that Galloway has no strategy to oppose imperialism and is simply using his notoriety to promote his own political career. The claim that those who fight police are "helping Bush and Blair", when their aim is precisely to disrupt Bush and Blair's gathering, is as close to Orwellian doublespeak as one can come. Next step no doubt will be for Galloway to condemn the Iraqi resistance for fighting back against the occupation. It also shows that he has no sense of who the real enemy is, simply opposing "Bush and Blair" while letting the imperialist state itself - and its internal-colonialist police goons - off the hook.
Galloway's treachery must be denounced by all those committed to serious opposition to imperialist and capitalist oppression. The right to self-defence must be held as irreducible in the struggle against oppression, and the iron jackboot of state fascism must be opposed and sabotaged, not immunised from resistance beneath an illusory velvet glove of liberal parliamentarism.
Please sign my petition denouncing Galloway's treachery and calling on him to reverse and renounce his statement.
