Subject: Hello All
I am a new member and I would like to introduce myself and share my
interest in small houses. I am a teacher in Michigan and my husband
and I just "finished" our small house.
My husband tore down a 129 year old barn to get the materials to build
it. He is a builder of furniture and had grown up with a cabin in his
family. The cabin was sold out of the family by a family member and
to ease his mourning we got the idea for this cabin.
The design is post and beam and it is one room. It is 50ft from our
back door so there is no need for a bathroom. We live in a very small
home so when children come to visit there is little spare room. When
my son visited this Christmas he and his girl stayed in the cabin and
said it was the best vacation they had ever had.
Most materials we used are recycled or from various discount building
supply stores in our area. My husband had never built a structure
before and our approach was one of imagining we were settlers building
a structure. We used his woodworking buddies and the internet to help
us over the rough spots.
This is a picture of the interior:
