Would someone explain to me how you use a timer with a crock pot. Does
this entail putting your food in the crock pot and leaving it at room
temperature until you want the crock pot to go on? Or does it turn the
pot off at the end of cooking? Either way, it doesn't seem like a good
idea to leave your food sitting around at room temperature.

      Thanks,

      Amy from MI

Dear Amy, You are correct....I would not leave the food sitting around for more than two hours. But that gives you a four-hour extension to your cooking

        Dear Amy,

You are correct....I would not leave the food sitting around for more
        than two hours.
But that gives you a four-hour extension to your cooking time....two at
        each end!

I use a timer on my crockpot ALL the time due to my workhours. I do however,
start everything at the frozen state - that way the meat is not just sitting
around at room temp. I've only had the timer not to come on 1 time - and
that's because I didn't know how to work it. I did throw that food away -
          better safe than sorry.
