Farberware versus Rival
- The other day I asked for opinions on the Farberware 8 quart slowcooker from
Costco. I felt the Rival programmable I had gotten previously was cooking
I've spent the last couple of days performing tests. Frankly, I just don't
like the Farberware one. I don't like the chrome and black first off. But
the crock doesn't sit in well, it rocks a bit,and is very rough and abrasive
on the bottom. In both pots, I just tried cooking water for the first day.
After several hours, I stuck in a cancy thermometer. The temps are fine,
180 degrees on low, and 212 (boiling) on high. The outside is hot, but can
be touched briefly without a burn. Oh, and this one smelled of burning
electrical the whole day I tried it--yuck!
The new Rival seems much better than the first one. On low it cooks at 180
to 185, on high it's 200 to 205. No smell with this one! The lid fits
better, and I think the outside is a bit cooler to the touch than the
Farberware. I think I just picked out a lemon the first time. Besides, I
just like the look better!
So, do these temps sound about right, when measuring the liquid with a candy
