      Om Namo Bhagavate Sivanandaya!
      Om Namo Bhagavate Chidanandaya!
      Om Namo Bhagavate Krishnanandaya!

      Namaste!

Video tapes of the retreat with Gurudev Sri Swami Chidanandaji Maharaj at
Maryland, USA is now available from The Divine Life Society of Maryland.
The details for ordering the tape along with current activities of the DLS
of MD (including the upcoming retreat with Swami Adhyatmanandaji) are
      attached below.

Tomorrow (Sept. 21) marks the beginning of Navaratri (nine nights). This
is the greatest Hindu festival in which God is adored as Mother. As the
name implies, this festival is celebrated for nine days. We have uploaded
two articles on the significance of Mother worship for devotees to
contemplate on during this period. The articles are:

      1) "Durga Puja or Navaratri" by Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. The URL is:
      http://www.rsl.ukans.edu/~pkanagar/divine/religions/navaratri.htm

      and

      2) "The Esoteric Significance of the Devi-Mahatmya" by Sri Swami
      Krishnanandaji Maharaj. The URL is:
      http://www.rsl.ukans.edu/~pkanagar/divine/religions/devi_mahatmya.htm

May Divine Mother shower Her abundant Grace on all Her children.

Yours in the service of Gurudev,

      Pannir

ATTAIN PERFECTION IN SERVICE: Zal Mathaji had, as usual, brought some
oranges. The skin and seeds were removed and the fruit was ready for
eating. She gave them to the Master. The Master shared the gift with the
      people around him.

To a disciple he said, "When you give oranges to others you should also
follow the example of Zal Mathaji. You should remove the skin and seeds so
that what you give will be in a readily-eatable condition. One should
render service to others with intense interest, sincerity and love.
Whatever service is rendered should be rendered to the farthest possible
      limit.

"When you do all your actions with such great interest, your life will be
full of joy and your heart will expand and get purified. Cultivate an
intense desire to serve. You should do things to perfection. You should be
cautious and avoid mistakes while rendering service. Some people hold a
knife in their hand and with the same hand give fruits to others. In this
there is the chance of the receiver's hand being injured. You should
attend to all the details of whatever you do. This is what I mean."

      -----------------------------------------------------

"Purify your mind. Steady it. Fix the mind on the Supreme Soul. Meditate
and realise your essential divine nature. You will be freed from the wheel
of births and deaths. You will attain eternal bliss and immortality." -
      Swami Sivananda
