      Om Namo Bhagavate Sivanandaya!
      Om Namo Bhagavate Chidanandaya!
      Om Namo Bhagavate Krishnanandaya!

During the retreat with blessed and worshipful Gurudev Sri Swami
Chidanandaji Maharaj in Maryland, Gurudev mentioned that he would like the
whole world to read Sri Swami Sivanandaji's "Essence of Yoga". This book
is given to all new members of The Divine Life Society because of its
unique nature among the Master's books. The intent of the books has been
beautifully described by the Master himself:

"For sincere spiritual aspirants, marching boldly in the Adhyatmic
(spiritual) field, this handy publication provides, succinctly,
innumerable PRACTICAL hints. Every page abounds in much valuable
information in a condensed form. The laconic lessons contained in this
book should speak for themselves. If this proves in any way useful to the
ardent Mumukshus (seekers after liberation), the author's sincere
endeavour to help them will be more than amply fulfilled."

This book is now available for download in both PDF and HTML formats from
      our free books page at

Attached below is a letter from the publisher of "Voice of Sivananda"

SERVICE MORE IMPORTANT: The Master was proceeding to Satsang, accompanied
by some of his devotees and disciples, including Sri Pushpa Anand and
party of Dehra Dun. He enquired of Sri Pushpa, "Have you taken your food?"

      She replied in the negative.

Then the Master remarked, "Now there is nobody to look after the visitors.
One is always repeating, 'Sivoham, Sivoham', another keeps the name of
Jagath Ateetananda. A third reads the Yoga Vasishta and says that there is
no world in the three periods of time; but if there is no salt in the dhal
he will not be able to take it! Instead of studying the Yoga Vasishta and
Vedanta it is better to eat properly and serve. If God wishes let Him give
