      Om Namo Bhagavate Sivanandaya!

      Om Namo Bhagavate Krishnanandaya!

HOW TO BEAR INSULT: Swami A. approached the Master and complained that
Swami B. had insulted him, saying that he would neck him out!

The Master coolly replied, "What does it matter if he necks you out? You
have performed the Vraja Homa ceremony during the time of embracing
Sannyas. You have burnt your body in the Vraja Homa. You are now without a
body. This is the significance of the Vraja Homa. You should always
remember that you are the Self and remain serene and unperturbed even when
you are assaulted or insulted. No doubt it is difficult to practise but
keep it as your ideal. When anybody insults you, enquire: 'To whom does
this insult belong? It belongs to the body. But I am not the body. Who
insults? The same power which is in my body and in the body of everyone,
insults. So I am insulting myself.' Discriminate like this and maintain
your peace and equilibrium. Initially you might not succeed in this
practice, but you should try repeatedly. Eventually you will succeed in
this practice, but you should try repeatedly. Then praise and censure will
      be the same to you.

"You should remain calm and silent like a stone even if your throat is
being cut. A little abuse upsets the mind of people. If someone says that
you are a donkey, you become furious immediately. Do you actually become a
donkey? Do you develop four legs? Insults are only vibrations in the

"These incidents give you an opportunity of finding out your spiritual
strength. Your meditation should tally with your daily activities. If you
meditate deeply that you are the all-pervading Self, why should you be
affected by insults? Treat every insult received by you as a God-given
opportunity of testing your spiritual strength. If you fail in the test,
increase your Japa and meditation and root yourself in the consciousness
that you are Brahman, the all-pervading Consciousness, and so have no
      physical body."

Swami A. was impressed by the wise counsel of the Master and, realising
his own limitations, chose to drop the complaint and began to depart.

The Master said to him, "I shall ask Swami B. to be polite and courteous
      to you in the future."

"God is the throb in the throat of the nightingale. He is the expertise in
the fingers of an expert artist. He is the hush at dawn. He is the silence
in the depths of the forest. He is the stillness in the waters of the
lake. He is the grandeur in the depths of the ocean. He is the loftiness
in the mountain peak. He is the purity in the virgin snow. He is the All
in All, the All that is everything." - Swami Chidananda
