      Om Namo Bhagavate Krishnanandaya!

      Namaste!

      In celebration of the upcoming Guru Purnima on July 15th we have
      uploaded an inspiring talk by Sri Swami Venkatesanandaji on the
      Guru-disciple relationship. This article is at:

      "Sivananda Daily Readings" by Sri Swami Venkatesanandaji has now been
      compiled into one PDF file for easy download. This book can be
      downloaded from the Divine Life Society of Maryland's website at:

      Yours in the service of Gurudev,

      Pannir

      ps. I am going to be away in Alaska, USA from July 11 to July 18 and in
      Hawaii, USA from July 21 to July 28. I may not be able to get e-mail
      access during this period.

      -----------------------------------------------------

      SANNYAS-AROMA: "M. wants Sannyas (monkhood)," the Master remarked as he
      read a letter from a disciple who had proceeded on a pilgrimage to
      Uttarakhand.

      There was silence and no further talk. The Master left the office.

      In the afternoon he brought the following poem as a surprise commentary
      on his morning utterance:

      Comfortable Sannyas will not help you;
      Sannyas is sterner stuff;
      It demands endurance, renunciation and dispassion,
      You have not abandoned betel leaves and nuts,
      Smoking, tea, love for crop and newspaper reading,
      Mixing with householders freely;
      You are saturated with worldly ambitions.
      People should see something of Sannyas in you,
      Some kind of Sannyas-aroma should waft from you,
      Otherwise what is the use of your Sannyas?
      Is it for getting respect or receiving namaskar?
      Then you are deceiving yourself and others, too.
      Shave the mind first by destroying desires;
      Give colouring to your heart first.
      This is real Sannyas."

      -----------------------------------------------------

      "One who wants rapid spiritual progress, should learn first of all to
      see God in the Guru and thus train oneself in the art of seeing God in
      all eventually. Secondly, one should overcome this nasty habit of seeing
      defects in others, whoever it is, and thus learn to focus all one’s
      attention on one’s own defects." - Swami Venkatesananda
