Bobby May the juggler
- Dear all,
One of America's best jugglers was Bobby May who is revered as a icon in the world of juggling. He's been gone for 24 years now but he is never forgotten. The latest issue of Juggle magazine has an article on him and I'll quote some really amazing descriptions of what he used to do.
"...1933...one new effect...this difficult feat had Bobby tossing a cigarette around his back, then catching it in his mouth. Next he would light a wooden safety match...also be thrown around his back to join the cigarette between his lips...then tip his head in order to light the cigarette without using his hands."
"...cause the ball to roll from ear to ear by simply tipping (his) head. This ear-to-ear control of a small ball was first done by Bobby May."
"His feat of balancing an eighth ball on his forehead at the same time was proof of his surety with a seven-ball cascade."
"...another orginal feat...bending over a table, May would spring up on top of it and balance himself upside-down in a small headrest. With arms and legs moving freely in the air, the inverted juggler would pick up three balls and juggle. Throwing the balls downward, he would bounce them off a drum to accompany the orchestra..."
Hope you enjoyed reading that. Bye for now,
