Group Description

SimCCD is a program for simulating how a CCD camera works for taking astrophotos. The program can help you decide how many pictures to take, how important it is to take those pictures at a dark site, what the exposure time should be, how many darks and flats should be taken, how different cameras compare when photographing the same target, etc.

By just taking one single trial exposure of a target, you can use SimCCD to tell you how many exposures to take to reduce the noise to an acceptable level, and how long your session will take. This feature is also available in a new MaxIm DL plug-in called Exposure Planner. While Exposure Planner is not as powerful as SimCCD, it is much easier to use.

For more information on these programs, please visit the
SimCCD web site.
