To answer your question, that song would be "(Ain't That A) Kick In The Head" by Jimmy Luxury and The Tommy Rome Orchestra. The song starts off with a sample of "Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea" by our own Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers and then proceeds to kick into a hip-hop tune, or swing-hop as Jimmy Luxury might call it. The song is found on the demo copy of their "A Night In The Arms Of..." Sony release. After having several problems with the label, the release never came out, and the band proceeded to self-release all of the same tracks, minus the one you're asking about, as an album entitled "My True Love Is...Hip Hop." It's a shame that that was the one song didn't make the cut of their album because it is one of my favorites. You can find more about the band at www.jimmyluxury.com.
That's about all I know.

Subject: [sfswing] Song Question
This is really for anyone who went to "Swing by the Sea," because I can't
really *describe* the song... And yes, I know, I should have asked back then,
but hearing "Cocktails for Two" at Pleasanton fired my memory.
The last song they played during the ALCH qualifying rounds started out as
an old-school swing standard, then turned into a Hip-Hop version of the
same song. 'Twas tres cool, but the DJ didn't know what it was, as it
was "donated" by someone at the camp.
Does anyone know the artist/song info?
Note: Crossposted to sfswing, open-mic and z-swing. Sorry 'bout that. But hey,
*three* lists for the bay area?
