Get 'em: Bike Parking Corrals and Parklets
PARK(ing) Day may be over, but the real fun is just beginning. The City has launched a public application process for both on-street bike parking corrals and parklets. We need your help to get the word out about these opportunities to businesses and organizations that would be good hosts. Print out flyers for bike parking corrals here and for parklets here, or e-mail kit@... for copies. Hand the flyers to businesses you patronize to let them know that about the opportunities, and encourage them to apply.
You can apply for a bike parking corral anytime -- but why wait? The parklet application is due October 18th, so get the word out now! Love both corrals and parklets? Not sure which one to recommend? Tell your favorite businesses about both! There's tremendous pent up demand for both facilities around the city.
If you're as excited as we are about these opportunities, please email Kit Hodge, the Great Streets Project Director, to get involved in doing on the street outreach to businesses and other organizations who might be a good match.
Mark your Calendars for Family Day in October
The SF Bicycle Coalition's fourth annual Family Biking Day is 10/10/10! Make Family Day a yearly tradition and join other Bicycle Coalition families like yours as we enjoy a car-free Sunday in Golden Gate Park. We've planned a fun day with special bike-y activities like a bike scavenger hunt, a family biking showcase and a family bike parade, as well as our popular Freedom From Training Wheels effort to get the little ones on two wheels and the mini-city Bike Road-eo to teach safe riding and rules of the road. Want to help out on Family Day? Volunteers are needed -- email Kate to help out.
Family Day details: Sun., Oct. 10th, 11am-3pm, Golden Gate Park off JFK Drive at the 14th Avenue East Picnic Area (North of Stow Lake and east of Transverse Drive overpass). See sfbike.org/familyday for the full schedule of fun.
