Syodon was a therapsid that lived during the Permian period. Fossils of this creature have been found in Russian. They date to the Tatarian substage (267 - 260 million years ago).
Syodon is in the suborder Dinocephalia and the family Anteosauridae. Like others of its family, Syodon was a carivore. Syodon was physiologically similar to Titanophoneus, but smaller in size. Two species of Syodon have been identified. This excerpt from khepter.net gives information about them:

Syodon biarmicum Kutoroga 1838 (type species)
Location: Isheevo, Cis-Uralian, Perm region, Russia
Age: Lower Tatarian Substage, Middle Permian ("Zone II")
Material: tusk from the Kargaly Mines, Copper Sandstones; frontal part of skull from Isheevo, femur from same locality

      Syodon efremovi Orlov 1858
Location: Kamennyi; Valley, Cis-Uralian, Perm region, Russia
Age: Lower Tatarian Substage, Middle Permian ("Zone II")
Material: known from the holotype skull (left) about 22 cm long, skull from Kamennyi Valley, near Isheevo, and various postcranial remains.

This excerpt from Palaeos Vertebrates lists information about the physcial characteristics of Syodon:

Characters: small body [BS00]; skull moderately high [BS00]; pineal opening and boss large [BS00]; orbits large [BS00]; postorbital bone large and thick, providing extra area for origin of part of superficial adductor musculature [062?]; palatines & pterygoids with teeth [BS00]; canines rounded and curved [BS00]; postcanines small & transversely compressed [BS00]; femora slender with ridges and condyles weakly developed and with a slight curvature [062?].

      Family: Anteosauridae (also called Brithopodidae)
      Genus: Syodon
