Please cf. photo in photo file JG

AR Drachm (Attic weight), 3.86 g, Tyre mint c. BCE 138-134 off flan
      SC 2108 variety
O: diad hd of Antiochus VII r., some porosity
R: BASILEOS ANTIOXOY in two lines on right, EUERGETOY on l., Nike adv l
holding wreath, Tyrian monogram TYP on club as mintmark and Sigma inner
right under wing as control. Date off flan but normally below Nike's
      feet.

It appears that magistrate Sigma, signed both Attic and Phoenician
weight standard tetradrachms, didrachms (Phoenician standard only) and
until recently only a drachm of Phoenician standard as well.

Now the above described attic weight drachm has appeared and is
unrecorded in SC and other sources available to me.

Unfortunately, the date is off the flan, but certainly falls in the
period that magistrate Sigma was active (c. BCE 138-132/1). A Regal
tetradrachm, actually the only of that series to be signed by Sigma is
dated HOP (S.E. 178=BCE 135/4) and may provide a possible clue to the
date of this drachm, though this cannot be supported until other
      examples appear.

If anyone is familiar with other examples please advise at your
      convenience.

      best regards

      Jay Guberman
