Please note, we now have new dive time of 6.00pm, as the evenings
are getting darker earlier now.
Next Wednesday 31st August we will be diving HMS Scylla (weather
Scylla is Britain's newest artificial reef and subject of
the "Settling on Scylla" recording scheme. This 113m Leander Class
Frigate was sunk back in March 2004 and lies in a maximum of 26m,
with the depth the first deck being about 18m. More information on
Scylla can be found at
This is a more advanced wreck dive so is only suitable for PADI
Advanced Open Water Divers/equivalent and above.
We will be collecting seaweeds from the top of the wreck on this
dive for identification by the Marine Biological Association.
This dive is open to both MCS members, and non-MCS members, so
please feel free to pass this email along to anyone you think may be
interested in joining us!
The dive costs just £12.50, a saving of £7.50 on the usual dive
We will be using Seeker for the dive, a 12m hardboat with electric
lift to get you back onboard easily. There are tea, coffee and
toilet facilities on board, and I always bring snacks or sweets for
The boat will leave the pontoon at 6.00pm on the night, so please
arrive a little earlier to get ready. To book your place on the
dive, please call the dive centre, Deep Blue, on (01752) 491490.
If you need to cancel your place on the dive for any reason, please
phone Deep Blue on (01752) 491490 or email me on
by 12pm on the day prior to the dive,
otherwise you will be charged the full amount (£12.50) for the dive.
This is standard dive centre procedure!
After the dive, we will fill in some special Scylla forms to record
the marine life we've seen during the dive. We usually go over to
the Mount Batten Hotel bar after the dive to do this. Forms and ID
guides are provided but you do of course have to buy your own
drinks! And don't worry, you don't have to be an expert on marine
life identification, every little helps!
Thanks - hope to see you on Wednesday!
