dicing to be Scrum Master
i saw and heard about that in a few Scrum practices the ScrumMasters are
changed frequently (as a bonus to people who did well engineering jobs) and even randomly (by dicing!). And often
the host of table was a PM. i can not help to say that dicing to be
ScrumMaster is really one of the last things i want to see and even heard
1. that will undermine the value of ScrumMaster
it be read as ScrumMaster is nothing that anyone can be ScrumMaster. SM
does has its own competence sets, isn't it?
the only possible scenario to make everyone can be SM is that take SM as
team dedicated assistant only, swapping table (whiteboard), moving the
stick-on-it from planed to done column, updating a simple excel sheet...
yes. i agree that such routines would be done by SM but the jobs of SM are
never only these. to get the jobs of SM done well do need specific or even
2. take SM as a bonus (even promotion) will lead people misunderstanding the
role of SM
being SM is not turning into a superior of the team. so please take SM as a
working role rather a title. what the position title if one guy wants and
capable to be SM all the time? that would be assistant PM, Project Lead,
PM...if your company (should) has such career path. but meanwhile people
with other "title" surly could be SM if she/he is the one.
3. changing SM too frequently lead difficulties to gain Scrum experiences
both for SM and the other team members
how can you image Scrum experiences acquiring as one-sprint-SM? how can a
team to be conformable to sprintly SM ? how many CSMs can pass CSP
certification after one year Scrum practice with multiple teams? all guys
who used to be SM for one sprint or 3-4 persons who worked as SM for
reasonable time length.
finally, It would be my tip for those who wants to fail with Scrum that
please undermine the value of ScrumMaster to fail with Scrum by dicing to be
