- What did I take away from IOLS that I didn't have before? It
certainly wasn't knots and cooking or even camping skills. I had
It was the BSA mind-set, and that the way BSA does things is usually
for a well thought out reason. I also got to know a number of other
leaders from through out the council. It's really nice to have faces
to go with names in other troops.
One thing that was done for my IOLS weekend was that some of the
sections were actually taught by people taking the course. It was a
great way to get them trained and validate their knowledge and skill.
There is no better teacher than someone who is passionate about their
So while I understand the dilemma, I don't know if testing out is the
right option. Maybe a combination of testing out, and some training
that could be offered at summer camp or at Camporees.
