Does the e-learning class “Staffing the District Committee” count as the equivalent of D61 – District Committee Training Workshop? If not, what code is associated with the e-learning class. Does completion of the e-learning class result in a “trained” district committee member as is the case with D61?

According to the latest "Training Course Codes (Alpha)" ( http://www.scouting.org/filestore/training/pdf/CurrentandPastTrainingCodes.pdf ), course "Staffing the District Committee" (WD77) does NOT meet the requirements of being considered "fully trained".

The "District Committee Training Workshop" (D61) is not the same as WS77. This can be confirmed by looking at the document titled "What Makes A Trained Leader" here: http://www.scouting.org/filestore/training/pdf/What_makes_a_trained_leader.pdf

I don t believe they are equivalent. The online course is about recruiting individuals to fill positions on the District Committee. The training code is WD77.

The course content is on the same as the District Committee Training workshop, and I believe will not satisfy the training requirements for a District Committee member.

NO. WD77 - Staffing the District Committee is NOT the position specific
training for member of the district committee and I can validate that
entering WD77 does not result in a district committee member be shown in
                ScoutNET as position leader trained.

See attached Positions Trained List report downloaded from my.scouting.org
(Training Manager) which lists D61 – District Committee Training Workshop as
the position specific training for chairs and members of the district
committee. I can validate that entering D61 for a leader registered as a
member of a district committee is indeed shown in ScoutNET as being basic
                leader training.

FOR EVERYONE: National has discovered there are errors in the document you can download from within the new my.Scouting Tools. They have said that until they can get it updated (it takes more than just updating the document; the programmers need to update the code used to determine if you're trained or not), use the one-page flier titled "What Makes A Trained Leader" which is available here: http://www.scouting.org/training.aspx It is listed on the right side of the page under "Quicklinks".

Since it's not the same (I knew that) our council is in trouble. The only time the workshop was offered in the council was at the 5 Star University of Scouting (a commissioner college). They have decided to only have commissioner courses, nothing for CS, BS, or district. Guess they're going to have to offer it themselves.

The District Committee Training Workshop syllabus (BSA 34160) clearly indicates the responsibility of ensuring the district committees are trained in their duties is the responsibility of the Council, and IMHO, the responsibility of the Council Key 3.

In fact, the subtitle of the course name is: "A syllabus to help councils provide basic training for members of the district committee."

IMHO, Districts should insist that the Council do their duty to ensure the Districts are appropriately trained in their positions and schedule sufficient DCTWs to train district committee members from year to year. We as trainers for the Unit level volunteers insist no less for those leaders, and are in fact measured via the JTE metrics for our efforts.

                      'Nuff said.

Since it's not the same (I knew that) our council is in trouble. The only time the workshop was offered in the council was at the 5 Star University of Scouting (a commissioner college). They have decided to only have commissioner courses, nothing for CS, BS, or district. Guess they're going to have to offer it themselves.

I think you forgot to attach the document. Regardless, I do know which document you are discussing.
