Hi, thanks for sending this along Lynne. It is not the same lady I mentioned that is presenting but I think this one should be good. I plan on attending it as I go to many of their functions. They just had a great workshop on writing humor about a month ago. Tim does a great job of planning workshops. I attended the D Anne Love workshop last spring on writing novels. Everyone should check their website out frequently. They are very active, like our group, thanks to all the hard work of our great leaders. The web workshop we had last Monday was great. Thanks for everyones hard work.

      Hi Everyone,

I just received this email I wanted to pass along from the SCBWI regional
advisor in Austin, about a workshop they are having in October about "The
Hero's Journey." (Although I think Bonnie mentioned this workshop topic at a
recent meeting here, so if the same presenter is coming to Houston I'm sure
we'll just attend at that time instead of driving to Austin.)
Also in this email are announcements about other upcoming events in Austin
      and their conference in April.
I cut and pasted the workshop description and registration into the body of
this message since I know attachments won't come through on the list; if
you're unable to print it like it is you can email me individually for me to
send you the attachment, or it should be on their website soon at
      www.austinscbwi.com .

      Hello fellow novel writers,

I hope you've been doing lots of writing since D. Anne Love held that
wonderful workshop for us. We have another event coming up on October 20th
that I thought you might be interested in. Dr. Lila Guzman will present *The
Hero's Journey *and registration opens Monday. I've attached all the
information and the registration form. As a special bonus, everyone who
attends this workshop will receive a $10.00 discount when registering for
the spring conference on April 26th.

For the April conference, agent Erin Murphy, editor Deb Wayshak
(Candlewick), and writing instructor Peter Jacobi are already confirmed. We
will have some slots available (like with manuscript critiques) for writers
to pitch to Erin. She doesn't accept submissions except from writers who
attend conferences where she speaks, so just by attending you'll be able to
submit to her after the conference.

In other events, Frances Hill (*The Bug Cemetery, Henry Holt, 2002) *will
speak about revision at our meeting this Saturday, and on August 11th April
Lurie will talk about using real life experiences to write a novel. April
has been chosen Author of the Month for August at all the Barnes and Noble
stores in Austin and Round Rock. Her latest novel, *Brothers, Boyfriends,
and other Criminal Minds, (Random House, 2007) *is on bookstore shelves now.
Our meetings are free and open to the public and begin at 11:00 at the
Barnes and Noble in Westlake. Guests are also welcome to join the open
      critique session at 9:30.

Hope all of you are doing well.

      Best wishes,

The Hero's Journey is a powerful weapon in the writer's arsenal. Cultures

face trials or obstacles, and return home transformed into heroes. This
journey—often called the "hero's journey"—is at the core of almost all good
fiction and is the underlying structure of all successful plots. Learn how
to use this paradigm to strengthen plots, create memorable characters, and
guide you in your own journey toward publication.
