First, I'm pretty sure you'll be in the Barony of Elfsea
<http://www.elfsea.net>. If you want to make contact with someone
local before you head to your first meeting, e-mail the Hospitaler.
One of the primary functions of that office is to welcome and encourage
newcomers. If you're willing to just head out, you might want to start
      with a Populace meeting. They're general-purpose get-togethers, where
people who can tell you more about local activities (like Bardic Night)
should be available. If you're the type who likes to feel "armed with
information" before going to a meeting, you might want to read one or
more of the Society and Kingdom introductions for newcomers indexed on
      the main Kingdom site

I'm aware of fewer resources for new (or incipient) bards. There is a
Kingdom Bardic Guild, with a website <http://bard.ansteorra.org/>
promising many future resources and currently offering two PDF files
you might enjoy perusing--one book of original works by Ansteorran
bards, and one of songs sung by the populace of one of our baronies.
You could contact at least a couple of bards through the links there,
and they might be able to put you in contact with others in your area.

Good luck, and welcome to the Stellar Kingdom.
