      Perhaps, if your grandmother is still alive, you could ask her of your family history. Or look up records from Ellis Island. Or ask any other member of your family about the name. Many immigrants could not speak/write english, so their names became what the officers could figure out. 'Sherney' may just be what the officer handling your ancestor's case could figure out. Of course, if said ancestor came over before the potato famine, then there may be other records to look at as well. Towns/county/church records and the like.
