In nomine Sanctus Eligius, Sancti Monetarii, Greetings!

A couple of extra bits about the Saint: He purchased hundreds of slaves and
then gave each of them the choice of either freedom (in which case he gave
them money to enable them to return to their homes) or to stay with him as
part of his religious botherhood. Many of them stayed with him. Members
of the brotherhood also travelled around doing good works, one of which was
providing a Christian burial to executed convicts (contemporary law denied
      them burial).

Something that may be of interest to members of this list is that there is
an Order of St. Eligius, founded in Quebec in 1989. Its members are
Knights of St. Eligius. One of its charitable programs is promotion of
numismatic knowledge, particularly among youth. Membership is by
invitation. The contact info I'm able to find is:
Confrerie des Numismates de St. Eloi
      Claude Proulx
      1810 Gouin, Mas St.Eloi
      Val-David QC J0T 2N0
      Canada

Sir Claude also has a St.Eligius Numismatic Museum
