First of all. You should know about the following web site:

      http://www.iz2.or.jp/english/

many of the costumes in Spirited Away can be seen on this site.

There is also the famous and possibly out of print Nuikata book
in which there are exact patterns for some of the costumes in
the costume museum. amazon.co.jp does not appear to list it at
      the moment.

I have the book--Jidai Isho no Nuikata. It doesn't have the specific
outfit in Sprited away, though--actually, it does have a suikan, a noushi,
and dance costumes that are of a similar cut to what you are looking at.

The pictures of haku and most of the servants are hakuhou as I recall.
            See here:
            http://www.sengokudaimyo.com/garb/MenOutfits.html

For some basic patterns for the kariginu and suikan see the files section
            of the Yahoo!groups.

            http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sca-jml/files/Garb%20files/kariginu-types.PDF

If you can't get to it through the link, you can go to the sca-jml site,
go to the files section, then "Garb files" and look for
            "kariginu-types.pdf".

            -Ii

PS: I have a copy if you just need to look, Kiri-hime. I can bring it on
            the 12th

PPS: I may be late, contact me offlist when you get a chance.

              Konnichi wa tomodachi,
Does anyone have a list, or refs as to what type of herbs were grown
in period for food or medicines in Japan in period? I am starting my
herb garden again, and though replete with Western herbs, I was
wondering if there are any Herbs-nipponica I should include...
