Group Description

This Discussion Group advocates a rational-humanist outlook of history, culture, religion and geo-politics.

We represent the thinking of Swatantryaveer Savarkar, President of the Hindu Mahasabha, founded in 1915 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya.

From this Savarkariya (rationalist) viewpoint we have interpreted History, Culture, Mythology, Religion, Outlook toward Life; alongwith modern day geo-political issues like theology-inspired terrorism, globalisation, etc.

We welcome alternative viewpoints. We request members to practice decorum while communicating.

Motto of this eGroup: The religious outlook that claims to "know the unknown", as a god, ishwar, allah, etc., is a sub-optimal human response (and so is a sub-human response). Violent monotheism is a criminal response. The need of our age is for religious fanatics to move over and make way for rational-humanists. To make it more subtle; the need is for religious fanaticism to move out of human minds and be replaced by rational-humanism. So that we could go about using that organ unique to us - our brain with the capacity for abstract thinking. So that we can use all our energies to conquer SPACE - the final frontier of the unknown.

Our maintaining this eGroup, is our contribution for working towards this objective.

We round-up our introduction with the following quotation by Nobel Laureate physicist Steven Weinberg:

"Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or

without it, you would have good people doing good

things and evil people doing evil things. But for good

people to do evil things, that takes religion."
