This month we will have a lighting presentation by new member Phil Helmer :
PIVOT & UNPIVOT in T-SQL
This short presentation will cover the syntax and usage of the PIVOT &
UNPIVOT DML operators that have been available in Transact-SQL since SQL
Server 2005. Do they need to be used in a reporting capacity to be of use?
Do they perform opposite and reversible actions? Can they save you time and
help you get more sleep? In this lightning talk, those questions will be
Phil Helmer has been working with relational databases for the last 12
years, the last half of that with SQL Server. He is particularly involved
with database design/development as well as integrating databases. He is
currently a Database Analyst for a healthcare software company in San Diego,
where his role includes helping the staff stay up to date with the features
in the SQL Server product. Phil also has a degree in Information Systems
Management from the University of New Orleans.
Our main presentation will be PowerPivot for Excel with Lakshmi Randall.
PowerPivot for Excel is a powerful data analysis tool that provides business
users with the capability to combine and analyze large volumes of
distributed data. It facilitates sharing and collaboration among the user
community through seamless integration with Sharepoint 2010. The following
PowerPivot features are presented in this session: Vertipaq model, importing
data from SQL Server Database and from SSAS, defining data set
relationships, adding calculated columns using DAX expressions, adding DAX
measures, using "slicers" in a PowerPoint report, building a dashboard, and
exporting reports to powerpivot gallery.
Lakshmi Randall is Enterprise Data Warehouse Engineer at Mitchell
International and President of La Jolla Data Corp. She has 13 years
experience in database design, development, tuning, and administration
including a focus on building and supporting data warehouse and data mart
initiatives during the past 6 years.
