attached is a photo of Margaret's Grocery at Vicksburg,Mississippi
[as featured in the files of the SL website]
with some old frenchman standing in front of the gate.
we visited just before dark, but Margaret was home and invited us
in to chat.
she is 87 and very sweet. she said that people from all over the world
who have read about the grocery on the Net or elsewhere stop by often.
the grocery doesn't sell anything anymore, but donations are welcome.
the old fixtures are still in place, but the grocery is basically
the construction itself is the work of her second husband, most definitely
a mason, with a business card that features the masonic logo prominently.
an important fact that should be added to the file on Margaret's Grocery is
its specific location.
for travelers coming off I-20, it is located on Old Highway 61, north of
downtown Vicksburg, before it hits New 61.
travelers coming from the north on 61should turn at the Port of Vicksburg
Margaret's Grocery is about a half mile down the road on the right.
it's hard to miss.
i especially enjoyed the fact that the lost Ark of the Covenant
is sitting on the front porch -- right next to the 10 commandments
on the door.
how about them apples, Indiana Jones?
