Group Description
A specialized list by and for Orthodox and Hasidic Jews (or those growing in that direction) who live in rural or otherwise isolated situations away from a large Jewish community. Yes, we need a list like this, because most Jews in urban Orthodox communities do not "get it" about being a religiously observant Jewish farmer, etc. -- they think it's not even possible (sigh). And most of the small-town synagogues aren't Orthodox, so they don't understand us, either. So, we meet here for mutual support and to discuss halachic questions related to agriculture, animal husbandry, etc. that rarely come up in the city. The list is moderated by Yonassan Gershom, who is a Breslover Hasid living in rural Minnesota (and who took this picture of a dirt road across from his house.)
Membership here is not automatic --- we screen applicants to keep the missionaries out. When you apply, please include a short description of your rural Jewish situation and why you want to join. Non-Orthodox Jews may join as long as they respect the group's POV. We assume the rightness of halachah as God's Will and do not debate "denominations" or do textual criticism. "O-C-R wars" or other attempts to push non-Orthodox agendas are not welcome. But any rural Jew who wants to learn more about how to live a Torah life in the country is welcome. (No urban curiousity seekers or auto-spammers, please -- this is a specialized niche list, not a bulletin board.) We also assume that rural living is a good and viable option for us as Jews. Please do not come here to talk us out of it.
ADVERTISING DISCLAIMER: This group is NOT RESPONSIBLE for Christian ads that show up here -- Yahoo's program does not seem able to distinguish between Orthodox JEWS and Orthodox CHRISTIANS. We are not "Messianics," we are genuine Jews -- please ignore any such ads.
