- Nov 19, 2001.....the adage, "You'll never go broke underestimating the tastes of the
American public." He'd better hope he's got a third wind in his career -
he's got to have the lamest judgement of anyone in Hollywood.
NATIONAL ENQURIER/MIKE WALKER...
--Rupert Everett sold a TV sitcom he created about a British
ambassador
stationed in D.C. ? but he and NBC still have a teensy-weensy
creative
difference: Everett wants his character to be openly gay ? just as
he is in
real life! The network's balking, saying the TV landscape's
saturated with gay
characters on "Will & Grace," "Ellen," "Spin City," "Dawson's
Creek," etc.
Everett insists audiences will respond better if he's true to his
sexuality!
Gee, I'd have thought we'd respond more to his ability to act (which is
becoming as suspect as his judgement about audience preferences) . The
sad thing is he thinks we're too stupid to put aside reality for the two
months it will take for his show to be canceled. Let me be the first to
send a congratulatory card if he does come to his senses, rather someone
else's borrowed senses, in time to listen to those in touch with reality and
the common person.
BTW - Did anyone else catch him on the Vicoria's Secret Fashion Show?
I'll bet anything he scripted his own ridiculous performance.
