Group Description

Welcome to the Ruggero Raimondi group!

Ruggero Raimondi made his operatic debut as Colline in La Boheme at Spoleto in 1964, and later the same year appeared in Rome as Procida in I Vespri Siciliani. Following this he was engaged at La Fenice, Venice for several years and began to appear in other major opera houses from the late 60's.
In 1980 he became well known to a wider audience for his role in Joseph Losey's film version of Don Giovanni, which was followed by films of Carmen, Boris Gudonov and Tosca, and also some films in which he played non-singing roles. His repertoire also includes Filippo II, Fiesco, Silva, Falstaff, Mustafa, Iago, Mephistopheles (Gounod and Berlioz), Almaviva (Mozart), Pagano, Attila, Don Quichotte, Don Pasquale, Don Alfonso, Dulcamara and Becket (Assassinio nella Cattedrale).
In October 2003 he was presented with the Legion d'Honneur by the French Minister of Culture and in 2004 he received several awards in honour of the 40th anniversary of his debut.

LATEST NEWS: Ruggero will be appearing in Tosca in Liege in December, and next July in Barbiere di Siviglia at La Scala, Milan.

If you are an opera-lover who would like to find out more about him, or already a committed fan wanting to take part in intelligent and friendly discussion of his performances with other like-minded people, then this is the group for you.
