On Sunday, November 6, 2011, David Lotfallahi, owner of Lord Oriental Rug and Carpet in Falls Church, Virginia, will open his showroom to share insights into the traditions of Azerbaijani weavers in Tabriz and elsewhere in "South Azerbaijan." Admission to "Azerbaijani Rugs: Gifts to the World" is free, but reservations are recommended. To reserve tickets, visit http://azerbaijanirugs.eventbrite.com

Few Americans know that Azerbaijani weavers are responsible for a huge portion of the world's "Oriental carpets." Tabriz carpets are in a class of their own not only because of their dazzling motifs but because of the confluence of Eastern traditions they embody.

More than a rug lecture, the program will enable participants to see and touch Azerbaijani carpets from Tabriz in Mr. Lotfallahi's shop. The informal setting also will facilitate discussion among collectors and other interested participants. Dinner at a local restaurant, at each participant's expense, will follow the program.

The Karabakh Foundation's Azerbaijani Rug Initiative represents a long-term effort to provide proper attributions to the world's Azerbaijani carpets in showrooms and in museums.
