The Caribbean Studies Initiative of the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University seeks to hire scholars (open rank) with a record of research and scholarship in Caribbean Studies, including engagements with the Caribbean diaspora and transnational populations.  Applicants should centrally address two or more of the following themes in their work: colonialism, creolization, "négritude," history, migration, race, gender, sexuality, health, music, film, politics, law, inequality. We are especially interested in applications from humanities or social sciences scholars who work on Haiti and the Francophone Caribbean.  We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues with interdisciplinary interests, devoted to quality undergraduate education and committed to leading research, curricular, extra-curricular, and community-oriented programs.
The hired scholar(s) will join our growing number of Caribbeanists in shaping an intellectual and institutional initiative focused on developing Caribbean Studies at Rutgers University, which includes making linkages between multiple units on campus including the Center for Race and Ethnicity, the Center for Cultural Analysis, the Institute for Research on Women, the Center for Historical Analysis, the Department of Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies and other departments in the School of Arts and Sciences or the professional schools.
Applicants should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, one or two article-length writing samples, and three letters of recommendation. Review of applications will begin on Jan 15 and will continue until March 15 or until the position(s) is/are filled.
Electronic submission of material preferred (latcar@...) but paper copies also accepted at:
