      Doctoral Colloquium

Studying and managing encounters in tourism

      Malta, November 5, 2013

The Final call for papers for both the doctoral colloquium and annual conference.

Deadline for submitting abstract is September 1st, 2013

The 2013 ATLAS Conference in Malta will explore leisure and tourism as an environment of exchange.  Leisure and tourism have become major arenas in which exchange of ideas and different forms of value (economic, social, and cultural) can take place.  The conference will discuss issues of exchange in and through tourism and leisure in all it forms and settings.

This conference theme is inspired by the fact that in 2018 Valletta (Malta) will be European Capital of Culture, a project labelled as V.18.  Malta is now mapping out the way forward towards implementation of their plans for attaining excellence and inclusion through a creative, innovative and dynamic programme. The 2013 ATLAS conference is informed by the objectives and the 4 central themes of V.18 (Generations, Islands, Routes and Cities) and will be an important step in this process as it tries to imagine and discuss the role of leisure and tourism in the creation of conditions for different types of exchange.

      Doctoral Colloquium

The University of Malta, Aalborg, Iceland and Wageningen, ITS (Institution of Tourism Studies) and ITIS (Malta Tourism Institute), in collaboration with ATLAS, are pleased to announce the pre-conference doctoral colloquium for doctoral students in tourism, leisure and hospitality. The seminar will be held at the ITS (Institution of Tourism Studies) in Malta.

The Doctoral Colloquium takes place on the 5th of November 2013 (a day before the ATLAS 2013 annual conference) and provides doctoral students in tourism with an exciting opportunity to discuss their dissertation research with other doctoral students and leading academics in this field. The colloquium offers a unique opportunity to meet colleagues, share experiences and ideas, and network with students and faculty from different countries and university systems.

All topics and methodological approaches within the broad field of tourism, hospitality and leisure will be considered.

The deadline for submission is the 1st of September, 2013. Submissions should be sent by email to admin@....

The participation fee for this Doctoral Colloquium is € 75 for ATLAS members and € 100 for non ATLAS members.
