In October, Specialized announced their 'Innovate Or Die' human
powered inventions competition. The results have been fantastic. About
100 entries, including some very creative and smart 2-minute videos of
      pedal-powered inventions.

View all the entries at the competition's YouTube page:
      http://www.youtube.com/group/innovateordie

Two Xtracycle community members have entered:

Fossil Fool, the Bike Rapper (your truly) has entered the Choprical
      Fish human powered Party Bike:

Kipchoge, currently on tour in Mexico with the Ginger Ninja's, has
entered the Human Powered bicycle-touring sound system in use on the
      Pleasant Revolution tour. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R_R9Q_OXqA

Although both of these submission showcased pedal powered music
performance bikes, about 1/4th of the entries had applications in the
developing world. There were knife sharpeners, corn huskers, pea
podders, etc. Here are two of the better ones:
      Dual Purpose Bicycle -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cpVWCBi_qE
      Bicycle Ambulance -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSIH_BdsDow
      Multi-use stationary bike -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cjmAt96WEI

Another charming video was pedal-powered night soccer:

And one last video for your education and distraction on this Thursday
night, the hilarious Rinky Dink Sound System:

Hope you enjoy these videos. It helps the entrants if you give a
rating and a comment on the ones you like.
