- Wheatley to appeal length of sentence
Friday Aug 31 07:30 AEST
Jailed music promoter Glenn Wheatley is set to appeal the length of his prison sentence for tax evasion.
Wheatley plans to seek leave to appeal his minimum 15-month jail term, imposed in the Victorian County Court in June, as manifestly excessive, Fairfax newspapers report.
County Court judge Tim Wood found Wheatley had illegally hidden $318,000 by using a Swiss accounting firm and overseas transactions to conceal his income.
Supreme Court Justice Alex Chernov will consider granting Wheatley leave to appeal in a hearing a week from Friday.
If Wheatley is successful, a panel of three judges in the Court of Appeal will hear his case.
