Has anyone else noticed that Rev 13:18 lays down dual qualifications for the person who adds up the beast's number? The two qualifications are designated by use of the terms sophia and nous. While they may function together in hendiadys, their presence, it seems, clearly lays down a qualification, or perhaps restriction. It reminds me somewhat of the role(s) assigned the maskilim in the latter chapters of the book of Daniel. One wonders what sort of qualification came to the mind of the earliest readers/hearers of this passage?
