How strong is the external evidence *against* the Domitian dating hypothesis
      and for an earlier date?

I have written a 400 page book defending the early date (AD 65-66) for Revelation from internal and external evidence:
Kenneth L. Gentry, Jr., Before Jerusalem Fell: Dating the Book of Revelation (it is available at my website: www.kennethgentry.com

Dr. E. Earle Ellis defends an early date in his important The Making of the New Testament Documents (Brill).

I don't have my resources here, but there is also evidence for writing of the book during the reign of Vespasian, after the destruction of Jerusalem.  Someone else may be able to give you resources for that view.
