Group Description

A forum for linking amateur musicians with players and music
If you are applying to join our group, state the geographical area you're interested in playing in, your instrument, your ability (To keep out bots and spammers, generic membership requests [e.g. 'I'd like to join your group'] are rejected.)
Suggestions for identifying your ability level:
*beginner (just starting, not really ready to make music with others but interested in advice re: instrument etc)
*late beginner (can read through simple pieces with practice, mostly in tune, functional instrument, would like to play with other beginners for encouragement and practice)
*early intermediate (well-functioning historically-appropriate instrument, can sight read most pieces, always well tuned, can figure out complex rhythms with study or guidance)
*late intermediate (can sight read all but the hardest pieces, good ability to work out phrasing etc)

Here is some suggested etiquette to follow when connecting with others to play music.
*Underestimate your ability. If you show up to a session and realize you're outclassed, offer to sit it out and just listen.
*Respect others' judgment regarding whether you'd be a good fit with their group. Be okay with others not wanting an addition to their group just now, or deciding after meeting you that the chemistry isn't a match. If you're not invited to come back, bow out graciously.
*Respect the dynamics of a group you drop in to read with. Let the established members direct the music choice and critique the music making.

Note that this is not a trade venue. Makers who'd like to advertise their work or folks with instruments to sell are encouraged to try other sites such as Ebay.
