      Hi,

I'm running a system with RH 8 installed as a print server. Generally, it's working great but there is one queue that is giving an error.

      >lpq -Plp74
      Printer: lp74@lxbbpr01 'printer74' (dest text@printer74)
      Queue: 1 printable job
      Server: pid 32269 active
      Unspooler: pid 32272 active
Status: connecting to 'printer74', attempt 12 at 14:38:18.446
Rank Owner/ID Class Job Files Size Time
      stalled(669sec) lp@lxbbpr01+253 A 253 (STDIN) 72106 11:25:17
Printer 'text@pd-bldse-rc2022' - cannot open connection - Connection timed out

In the past when I've had this error, I haven't been able to ping the printer - ie. the printer is off the air. This time I can:
      >ping printer74

      PING printer74 (172.16.67.59) from 172.16.42.55 : 56(84) bytes of data.

      64 bytes from printer74 (172.16.67.59): icmp_seq=5 ttl=253 time=1.79 ms

      --- printer74 ping statistics ---
      5 packets transmitted, 5 received, 0% loss, time 4034ms
      rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.956/1.161/1.790/0.316 ms

This indicates to me that there's nothing wrong with IP connections to the printer.
The printcap entry is the same as all the other queues - I have a script that duplicates them.
      Anyone have any ideas?

      Thanks,
      Mike.

... It s OK - it s working now. I upgraded the kernel to the latest version and now the printer works - I wouldn t have picked it, but something worth noting

It's OK - it's working now. I upgraded the kernel to the latest version and now the printer works - I wouldn't have picked it, but something worth noting if it happens in the future.
